Rapid Response to Unusual Requests
When ORT Israel wanted a 15 minute transcript of a 1946 film, it was the League of Jewish Women who came to the rescue. The request was for someone with good shorthand skills to listen to the documentary film PASSPORT TO FREEDOM and transcribe in English to facilitate the production of Ivrit subtitles. The request was sent out to the membership by email on a Friday morning and the finished transcript was returned before Shabbat.
Recently, a request went out for volunteers to help with refugee archives at World Jewish Relief and five people put their names forward for this rota within the hour. To date, we have had 27 members applying for this project with offers to transcribe documents from Yiddish, Russian, French and German. All names have been given to World Jewish Relief who will contact members directly.
